Improving processes and systems that support clinical research
The Innovative Clinical Trials Unit (formerly the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL) has a long history of actively contributing to initiatives in the UK and in low- and middle-income partner countries (LMICs) to improve processes and systems that support clinical research, in particular clinical trials.
Supporting clinical trials units in the UK and LMICs
We support the development of leadership and domain expertise in clinical trials through knowledge exchange and mentorship.
Examples include:
- Clinical Development Services Agency, a clinical trials unit at the Translational Health Science & Technology Institute in India.
- Lincoln Clinical Trials Unit in the UK.
Contributing to developing clinical research infrastructure
Recent efforts have included:
- CReATE: an online research ethics application platform (CReATe) for India in partnership with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSA), Forum for Ethics Review Committees in India (FERCI) and PATH.
- Clinical trials toolkit for India: launched by Dr Renu Swarup, Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology at the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology, at the Global Bio-India summit on 22 November 2019.
